At the 2013 SFUFA Annual General Meeting, members passed a motion asking the SFUFA Executive to make an SFU equity audit a priority for the coming year. This initiative follows the release of a long-term equity study at the University of British Columbia that found a gap in the salaries of male and female faculty members that could not be explained by matters of rank, career progress, merit or field of work.
A working group was struck with representatives of the Association, Academic Women and the University, and its report and recommendations released in July 2015. The complete report can be found here.
SFUFA and SFU struck a second committee to review the findings, research possible solutions, and make recommendations for concrete action. That report, release September, 2016, can be found here.
In Fall, 2016, the Parties worked together to negotiate a settlement in response to the salary equity findings and the recommendations made to the Parties. The announcement of the terms of that agreement is available here.
The third SFUFA and SFU committee report, released March, 2021, can be found here.
The SFU-SFUFA Salary Anomaly Joint Committee Final Report, released March, 2021, can be found here.
The committee continues to work on equity issues at SFU and across the province and works closely with the SFUFA executive committee, Academic Women and other relevant University committees. Some current issues are data collection, workload review, review of Radical Inclusion report on Equity and Diversity.
