Collective Agreement, 2014-2019
The following is the first Collective Agreement between SFU and SFUFA, signed in summer, 2016, but covering the period 2014-2019.
The Framework Agreement that previously was in force has been superseded by this document, which includes terms governing the legal relationship between the Aniversity and the Association, procedures for collective bargaining and dispute resolution, and terms and conditions of employment, including salaries and benefits.
Letters of Understanding and Other Agreements
From time to time, the Association signs letters of agreement or understanding with the University to either amend an existing provision or policy, establish a practice not adequately covered elsewhere, or clarify the intepretation of some aspect of an agreement or policy.
These letters form a part of the overall agreement between the University and SFUFA, and have all the force or effect of any other agreement between the parties.
SFU Policies
SFU has a wide range of policies in place to govern academic matters, administrative affairs and terms of employment. The complete list of policies is available here.
For most SFUFA-related matters, however, it is the series titled “Academic Policies” which is most important. Here you will find information governing all aspects of academic staff employment at SFU, from processes for initial appointment through retirement, from departmental decision-making to the details of economic benefits.
A number of these policies have in whole or in part been incorporated into or modified by the Collective Agreement. Anywhere there is a discrepancy between the policy and the Agreement, it is the Agreement that takes precedence.
